Chelsea vs Tottenham Stats

  • Chelsea have won five of their last six league games against Spurs (D1), keeping five clean sheets in the process.
  • Tottenham have won just one of their last 31 away league games against Chelsea (D10 L20), winning 3-1 in April 2018 with current boss Antonio Conte in charge of the Blues that day.
  • Chelsea have already won three games against Tottenham in all competitions this season, including twice this month in the EFL Cup semi-final. The last Premier League team to win four games against an opponent in a single campaign were Manchester City against West Ham in 2013-14, while the last to win three games in the same month against an opponent were Aston Villa against Blackburn in January 2010.
  • No manager to have previously taken charge of Chelsea in the Premier League has won against the Blues at Stamford Bridge in the competition (D7 L13). Spurs boss Antonio Conte will be the eighth different manager to try, with each of the last three losing on their first attempt (Mourinho, Benítez, Ancelotti).
  • Chelsea have drawn each of their last three Premier League home games – they’ve not gone four without a win at Stamford Bridge in the competition since a run of five under Guus Hiddink between March and May 2016.

Chelsea vs Tottenham Predictions

Chelsea may have secured their spot in the EFL Cup final by beating Tottenham Hotspur over two legs in the semi-final, but boss Thomas Tuchel will be alarmed by his team’s current form in the Premier League. In their last seven league fixtures, the Blues have managed just one win.

With their poor form continuing earlier this week with an away draw against Brighton & Hove Albion, Thomas Tuchel promised his players a short break to help them recover from tiredness, but will he live to regret that if his side’s struggles continue here?

Tottenham Hotspur have been much improved in the Premier League under the guidance of former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte. The Lilywhites have hauled themselves back into the top four race by going unbeaten in their first nine league fixtures under the Italian head coach.

Although the defeat to the Blues in the EFL Cup may have shown the improvements that still need to be made to this squad, Spurs do seem to be an altogether more difficult opponent under Conte than they did previously under Nuno Espirito Santo and Jose Mourinho. A win here would go some way to proving that.

Romelu Lukaku has endured a difficult start to his second spell at Chelsea but has still managed an average of 2 shots per game in all competitions this season. Harry Kane meanwhile had 10 shots for Tottenham in their win at Leicester in midweek, three of which were on target. Expect both of these deadly strikers to continually test their opposing goalkeepers here.

One particularly intriguing battle in this fixture could be in the midfield, where some of the best tacklers in the league will go head-to-head. Of the traditional ‘big six’, Chelsea are by far the best tacklers, ranking 5th in the league with a total of 365, while Spurs are down in 15th with 312. We’re backing Jorginho and N’Golo Kante to come out on top with at least eight tackles between them.
