Ones to watch

Juventus: Cristiano Ronaldo

Many were penning obituaries for Cristiano Ronaldo’s playing career before his latest goal run. But the evergreen Portuguese forward is on the cusp of making Serie A history, a position with which he’ll be familiar by now. If he nets against Brescia – and you wouldn’t bet against it – the 35-year-old will equal an all-time record by scoring in an 11th consecutive Serie A match during a single season. Currently, said record is shared by Fabio Quagliarella and Gabriel Batistuta.

Key stat: Cristiano Ronaldo has scored in each of his last 10 Serie A appearances, bringing up 20 top-flight goals for the current season. The only players with more across Europe’s top five leagues this season are Ciro Immobile (25) and Robert Lewandowski (22).

Brescia: Mario Balotelli

Mario Balotelli’s return to Italian football has already had its ups and downs. He’s missed six games through suspension but has managed five goals across 16 matches to date, and the Italian marksman – who has netted away to Napoli as well as at home against high-flying Lazio – will fancy his chances of scoring his first league goal against Juve since April 2009.

Key stat: Mario Balotelli has scored one goal in six previous league matches against Juventus.

Squawka prediction

Expect a huge reaction from Juventus following back-to-back disappointing results on the road against Hellas Verona and AC Milan, which leave them with just one win across their last four matches in all competitions. As for lowly Brescia, who presently sit in the bottom two, it’s now eight Serie A games without a win and few will be backing them to get a result at the champions.

Scoreline prediction: Juventus 3-0 Brescia
