Chelsea and Manchester United go head-to-head on Monday night in a game that could have huge ramifications on Champions League qualification.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side go into this one six points behind Chelsea, meaning defeat would be a massive setback for United in the race for a top-four finish.

But the Red Devils have been known to step it up in big games this season, something Chelsea must be wary of – particularly after losing 4-0 at Old Trafford on the opening day of the campaign.

What’s changed since Chelsea’s opening-day humbling at Man Utd? Five things to know…

  • Man United thrashed Chelsea 4-0 in Lampard’s first game in charge on the opening day of the Premier League season.
  • But the Blues quickly recovered and have been mainstays in the top four for most of the campaign.
  • Meanwhile, United are six points behind Chelsea in the race for the final Champions League qualification spot.
  • Neither side is guaranteed a top-four finish with the likes of Tottenham, Sheffield United, Everton and Wolves all still challenging for fourth place.
  • United also beat Chelsea in the EFL Cup in October, with Marcus Rashford scoring a stunning free-kick at Stamford Bridge.

Confirmed Man Utd line-up

Odion Ighalo is in the matchday squad despite having trained away from his teammates last week due to coronavirus concerns.

While Solskjaer’s squad spent the Premier League winter break in Marbella for a warm-weather training camp, Ighalo has been working on his fitness not at Carrington, but the GB Taekwondo Centre, which is closer to the city centre and his current lodgings at the Lowry Hotel.

Despite the precautions, the 30-year-old trained to be ready for Monday’s game against Chelsea and starts on the bench. Solskajer told reporters during Friday’s press conference: “I never said he was gonna be ready to play on Monday. He’ll be involved with us and travel down with us. Now he’s out of that two-week period, [which was] just a precaution we made, and let’s see if he’s involved or not.

“We’ve kept in touch with him and of course we’ve done our own programme, he’s done his, and it was always going to be a case of him having to integrate, having been out in China. He needs to get used to the players, the team, up to speed as quick as he can.

“He’s been working really hard, pinching himself at times at his favourite club at the age of 30, but he’s earned that one and hopefully he impresses us so we can see him play.”

Squawka prediction

United have an admirable ability to step it up against the ‘Big Six’, as proven by their victory at Manchester City and the fact they are the only team to hold Liverpool this season. That in mind, they have the potential to leave London with a point, but a win might be a bit of stretch against a Chelsea side desperate to consolidate their place in the top four.

Scoreline prediction: Chelsea 2-2 Man Utd
