Two of the Premier League‘s most goal-shy sides of late face off at the Emirates this weekend, as Arsenal host Newcastle United.

Arsenal have become the top-flight’s draw specialists under Mikel Arteta. He will only be happy with maximum points here, but visitors Newcastle United will likely play for a draw.

The Gunners will have to be at it if they are to break down a Newcastle defence that will be determined to leave north London with a clean sheet.

Lack of goals a big worry for Arsenal and Newcastle

Alexandre Lacazette, playing under new manager Mikel Arteta

Arsenal and Newcastle have very different aims going into the final stretch of the season. The Gunners want to make a late push for an unlikely Champions League spot, while Steve Bruce’s are desperate to properly pull away from the threat of relegation.

But both sides are being thwarted by the same thing: a worrying lack of goals. Arsenal have scored just eight goals in their last nine Premier League games, while Newcastle have found the net only seven times in their last nine league outings.

It all makes for what could be a tight, edgy contest at the Emirates on Sunday, but while the hosts will be desperate for the floodgates to open and their goal record to improve, the Magpies will be more than happy with a low-scoring affair.

The question is: can Newcastle cope with Arsenal’s talented – if currently goal-shy – attacking players?

Squawka prediction

Despite struggling for goals of late, Arsenal will be confident they can create enough opportunities to beat Newcastle at the Emirates. Bruce will look to keep things tight, but if the Gunners are on song they shouldn’t have too many problems.

Scoreline prediction: Arsenal 3-1 Newcastle
