Porto vs Santa Clara build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

A run of four wins across their previous five league outings has firmly placed FC Porto in second but 10 points behind runaway Primeira Liga leaders Sporting with seven matches remaining this season. Despite their winning ways, Sérgio Conceição’s men have not been ruthless in front of goal, with the Dragons now having gone 11 games since last registering more than two goals in a single league outing (1-4 at Famalicão). In their backyard, they’ve been near flawless with only Marítimo (2-3) leaving with all three points. Porto however go into this weekend’s game having won just two of their last five home games.

Santa Clara meanwhile are seeking a return to winning ways after being held to a 1-1 draw by Tondela before the recent international break. Daniel Ramos’ side, though, have struggled for consistency this season, with The Azoreans only registering back-to-back wins on two separate occasions. On the road, Santa Clara are on a two-game losing streak, although their most recent defeat came at Sporting (2-1) early last month. Before this miserable run, they had put together a four-game unbeaten streak which yielded eight points.

  • Porto (vs Portimonense): Marchesín; Manafá, Mbemba, Pepe, Sanusi; Corona, Oliveira, Uribe, Otávio; Marega, Taremi.
  • Santa Clara (vs Tondela): Pereira; Ramos, Cardoso, Villanueva, Mansur; Morita, Anderson; Carlos Jr., Lincoln, Allano; Costa.

FC Porto are missing Iván Marcano and Pepe this weekend. Fabio Cardoso and Allano Lima are suspended for the visitors while Cristian González, Júlio Romão and Costinha sit out with respective injuries.

Player to watch: Sérgio Oliveira (Porto)

Even if, as expected, Porto fall short this season, they can look back on enjoying a solid campaign (it’s just Sporting have been historically good) with certain players standing out. None more so than Sérgio Oliveira, who is enjoying his most prolific to date. The 28-year-old has to date registered 11 goals across 23 outings for Porto, which is one more goal than Oliveira managed in 57 previous appearances. At home the central midfielder truly stands out, having produced six goals and four assists. In their most recent Estádio do Dragão outing, a 2-0 win over Paços de Ferreira early last month, the Portuguese international was involved in both goals, firstly assisting Pepe from a corner before doubling Porto’s lead with just 10 minutes remaining.
