FC Porto vs Pacos Ferreira build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:
After their incredible performance in Turin, knocking out Juventus and reaching this season’s Champions League quarter-finals, it’s back to domestic business for Porto, who find themselves 10 points behind Primeira Liga leaders Sporting coming into this weekend.
Sérgio Conceição’s men are unbeaten in 16 matches since losing, incidentally, at Paços Ferreira but have dropped 10 points in that stretch of games, including a goalless draw with Sporting a fortnight ago. At home, they’ve not been anywhere close to perfect. Three of their last four appearances at Estádio Do Dragão ended in stalemate. But the two-time European Cup winners have only suffered one defeat in their backyard this season and that was back in October against Marítimo (2-3).
Pacos Ferreira will be attempting to create a piece of history. Never before have they won a league game at Porto, and doing so ensures a double over their more illustrious opponents. Pepa’s side, who currently sit fifth and seven points behind Porto, returned to winning ways last time out when they beat Nacional 2-1, but that was only their second win in five games. On the road, they recently put together a three-game winning run, before suffering back-to-back defeats with one of those losses coming at Sporting (2-0). In fact, ‘The Beavers’ have tasted only three wins away from home this season. A fourth on Sunday evening would be momentous to say the least.
- FC Porto (vs Juventus): Marchesín; Manafá, Mbemba, Pepe, Sanusi; Corona, Uribe, Oliveira, Otávio; Marega, Taremi.
- Pacos Ferreira (vs Nacional): Jordi; Fonseca, Marcelo, Maracás, Rebocho; Eustáquio, Costa, Luíz Carlos; Ferreira, Tanque, Singh.
There are no Porto players currently reported injured or suspended. Jorge Silva and Mohamed Diaby are missing for Paços de Ferreira.
Players to watch: Sérgio Oliveira (Porto)
After producing a heroic performance in the Champions League against Juventus, all eyes will naturally be on midfielder Sérgio Oliveira, who also netted for Porto last time out in the league. The 28-year-old comes into this weekend’s game having scored three goals in his past four Primeira Liga outings, though just one of those came at home. That said, this is already Oliveira’s most productive league campaign in a Porto jersey. Before the 2020/21 campaign, he managed to score 10 goals across 57 matches. Oliveira matched that figure after 21 appearances this season.
