In their ultimate quest to regain the Portuguese championship Porto began the 2021/22 season with back-to-back wins over Belenenses and Famalicão before they came unstuck at Marítimo last time out. They would suffer demotion the following season, now back in Portugal’s top flight Arouca began the season with a 2-0 loss at Estoril, it was the same outcome against Benfica next time out. Armando Evangelista’s men last time out stopped the rot with a narrow 2-1 success over Famalicão, their first league win since April 2017.

Player to watch: Toni Martínez (Porto)
It’s fair to say Toni Martínez finished last season on a strong note. Having joined from Famalicão the former West Ham youth prospect started the 2020/21 campaign having scored once across his first eight appearances. Until the start of April the 24-year-old was consistently an unused substitute but he featured in Porto’s last 10 matches registering six goals. He started this new campaign where he left off having netted in each of Porto’s opening two games — meaning he struck in five consecutive league outings — before hitting a wall at Marítimo last time out. Martínez, who has scored in each of the Dragon’s last four home matches, will fancy his chances of stretching that streak against Arouca this weekend.
