Porto confirm Hector Herrera is set to leave amid Atletico Madrid links
Hector Herrera’s time at Porto is almost over after his future was seemingly confirmed by club president Pinto da Costa.
The midfielder’s contract expires at the end of the season and reports seem to suggest the 29-year-old could move to La Liga giants Atletico Madrid this summer.

Premier League’s loss is Atletico’s gain
Porto president Pinto da Costa’s revelation that Herrera has a “possibility of winning much more” away from the club, all-but confirms Herrera has intentions to seek opportunities elsewhere.
In an interview with Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, Da Costa said: “He was a fantastic professional, he wanted to sign a new contract but realised with his quality he had the possibility to earn much more.
“Perfectly right. We didn’t have the ability to pay.”
The midfielder is reportedly close to signing for Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid who are looking to strengthen their squad following star striker Antoine Griezmann’s admission that he wants to leave the club this summer.

This is potentially disappointing news for a few Premier League clubs – such as Wolverhampton Wanderers – who have reportedly been tracking the progress of Herrera’s impending decision.
With Wolves qualifying for the Europa League next season, and Herrera’s links with international teammate Raul Jimenez and former Porto, turned Wolves boss, Nuno Espirito Santo, it was perhaps understandable to put the two parties together.
However, it now seems unlikely that a deal with the Midlands club will materialise.
