Porto will be looking to remain top of the Primeira Liga table when they host rivals Benfica on Thursday at 9pm (UK time).

Sergio Conceicao’s men currently lead the Portuguese top flight but are only ahead of second-placed Sporting CP on goal difference. Both sides have identical records with 13 wins and two draws from their opening 15 matches, but Sporting will play before Porto in the return of the Primeira Liga post-Christmas and can put the pressure on. Benfica are four points back from the top two, dropping slightly following their 3-1 defeat to Sporting at the start of the month. They will also be seeking revenge after Porto knocked them out of the Taca de Portugal last week, Jorge Jesus’ final game.

Evanlison is suspended for Porto after his red card in the cup win over Benfica, which carries over to the league. He is joined on the sidelines for Porto by Pepe and Ivan Marcano who are still nursing injuries. We can expect Porto to field as full strength a team as possible, with Toni Martinez likely to replace Evanilson up front.

Porto predicted XI: Costa; Joao Mario, Mbemba, Cardoso, Zaidu; Otavio, Uribe, Vitinha, Diaz; Martinez, Taremi.
