Manchester City will look to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup for the fourth successive season when they travel to bottom-of-the-Championship Peterborough on Tuesday at 7.15pm (UK time).
Pep Guardiola has made it to Wembley in the previous three campaign, but only for the penultimate round in last two, so he will be aiming to inch one step closer to the national stadium and get his hands on yet another piece of silverware as City boss. Peterborough meanwhile are currently propping up the Championship table, so may well have their priorities set elsewhere, but they will be relishing this match-up against the reigning English champions nonetheless.

Peterborough team news vs Man City: McCann says he’ll ask Pep for Jesus transfer
Nathan Thompson, Jack Taylor and Mark Beevers are all expected to miss this contest, while Posh boss Grant McCann may be tempted to rotate slightly from the weekend’s defeat to Hull City, with Jeando Fuchs, Bali Mumba, Kwame Poku and Jonson Clarke-Harris all pushing for starts.
Posh have endured a difficult spell back in the second division, with McCann recently returning to London Road following the dismissal of Darren Ferguson. His task is simply to keep the club afloat, but he may well find his job a lot easier next season — no matter the division — if Guardiola grants him (no pun intended) his transfer wish in the summer window.
When asked by reporters what he’ll say to Guardiola before the match kicks off, McCann responded in-jest: “Can you sell me Gabriel Jesus or just give me him for free or whatever?”
Predicted Peterborough XI vs Man City:
- Benda; Knight, Edwards, Kent; Ward, Fuchs, Norburn, Mumba; Poku, Clarke-Harris, Marriott. (3-4-1-2)

Man City team news vs Peterborough: Jesus expected to start
On the subject of Jesus, the Brazilian recently returned to City’s bench at the weekend alongside Jack Grealish, with the duo missing the last three and two Premier League games respectively through injury. They could be handed a run out here to build up match fitness and regain some sharpness.
With the Manchester derby this weekend, Guardiola may be tempted to keep some players on ice, with Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, Joao Cancelo and Bernardo Silva all in line to make way, opening the door for the likes of Nathan Ake and John Stones to come in here, as well as an academy prospect — James McAtee and Liam Delap could get rare starts here.
Ederson, though, is expected to retain his position between the sticks with ‘cup keeper’ Zack Steffen nursing a shoulder injury, while highly-rated teenager Cole Palmer is still missing with an ankle problem. The 19-year-old scored and assisted in the third-round 4-1 win over Swindon and would have been expecting to feature here, but will no have to bide his time further.
Predicted Man City XI vs Peterborough:
- Ederson; Walker, Stones, Ake, Zinchenko; Fernandinho, Gundogan, McAtee; Mahrez, Jesus, Grealish. (4-3-3)
