Aubameyang vows to create ‘crazy’ partnership with Pepe and Lacazette at Arsenal

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says he can’t wait to see new Arsenal signing Nicolas Pepe start alongside him and Alexandre Lacazette.

The Ivorian arrived for a club-record £72m from Lille over the summer and made his debut as a late substitute in the Gunners’ 1-0 win away to Newcastle in their Premier League opener on Sunday.

And Aubameyang revealed Pepe is already showing what he is capable of on the training ground, expressing his excitement to see him in Unai Emery’s starting XI.

“I’m looking forward to it, because he’s a really great player,” he told Arsenal’s official website. “He’s already shown in training that he’s capable of doing great things with us. Hopefully, he will start soon.”

Arsenal fans are hopeful that Pepe will be deployed alongside both Aubameyang and Lacazette in the coming weeks and the Gabon international is keen to feature in what could become one of the Premier League’s most feared front lines.

“I don’t want to compare it [to other strike partnerships I have been a part of] but it is going to be crazy,” Aubameyang told the Evening Standard. “Everybody is excited about that. We will have time to play together and we will see. I am looking forward to it.”

Aubameyang, who shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah last season, scored a slick goal to hand Arsenal the three points against the Magpies on Sunday, drawing praise from Jose Mourinho.

But when asked if he was focusing on retaining his Golden Boot, the former Borussia Dortmund forward insisted he was more interested in helping the team achieve their goals first.

He added: “As a striker, of course, it’s in the mind. But first of all, as I’ve always said, the most important is the team. I’m really happy that the goal could help us to win the game.”

Arsenal host Burnley at the Emirates on Saturday in their second game of the season.
