Paul Pogba speaks with Lionel Messi, says Man Utd star’s brother amid Barcelona links
The brother of Paul Pogba has revealed that the Manchester United midfielder has spoken with Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.
Mathias Pogba added fuel to speculation linking his sibling with a move away from Old Trafford by suggesting the mercurial midfielder has also held discussions with compatriot and Barca newcomer Antoine Griezmann.
Pogba’s Messi conversation: Five things to know…
- Pogba was linked with a move to Barcelona across the summer.
- In July, his brother revealed that he “prefers Spanish football”.
- Pogba has previously opened the door on a “new challenge” away from Old Trafford.
- Mathias Pogba also told AS in January that Pogba ‘likes tiki-taka’ and will join either Real or Barca if he leaves United.
- He has once again fanned the flames by suggesting the Man Utd creator remains in contact with a number of Barca stars.

Pogba was consistently linked with a move to La Liga over the summer, with Barca and Real Madrid both credited with a strong interest.
Speculation initially gained momentum after the World Cup winner opened up about wanting to try a “new challenge somewhere else”, but the Frenchman failed to secure a move prior to the European window closing last week.
That, however, is unlikely to prevent rumours festering throughout the campaign, particularly when his brother claims the 26-year-old is talking to a number of stars at the club he was linked with just a few weeks ago.

When asked to discuss comments made by Los Blancos skipper Sergio Ramos, in which he lauded the Frenchman, Mathias Pogba told El Chiringuito TV: “I know he’s spoken with a few players, but not Ramos.
“Who? Oh, Messi. Sometimes, not always. Zlatan [Ibrahimovic]. Griezmann, because of the national team.
“I don’t know about anyone from Real Madrid. Oh, [Raphael] Varane, yes, and yes, with [Zinedine] Zidane, yes.”

Pogba “prefers Spanish football”
This is not the first time Mathias Pogba has talked up a move to La Liga for his brother, as he previously commented back in July that the Red Devil has a soft spot for Spanish football because of its technical obsession.
He stated: “Spanish football is the best football, especially with the ball… it’s the game we all like. As much to me, as to my brother.
“I always want the best for my brother. If he thinks it is the best team for him, he will come.
“I was happiest in my early years at Celta, it is where I grew up as a player and a man, it was the happiest stage of my football and general life.”
