Patronato vs Newell’s Old Boys build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

Patronato had a disastrous campaign in the Copa de la Liga, losing their first seven games, failing to score on four occasions. They ended the campaign with four wins in six and have carried that momentum into the Primera Division, winning their opening two matches, beating Aldosivi and Sarmiento 2-0. But that run was brought to an end last time out, with Independiente beating them 2-0.

The start to the Primera Division campaign has been similar, though their defeat to Argentinos Juniors was sandwiched by victories over CA Talleres and Estudiantes. But, including the Copa de la Liga Profesional and Copa Sudamericana, it has been a year to forget for Newell’s Old Boys. Firstly, they went winless in their opening eight games of the Copa de la Liga Profesional, losing four and drawing four, before failing to win four of their six Copa Sudamerica group stage matches, finishing third in Group F and bowing out.

  • Patronato (vs Independiente): Ibanez; Geminiani, Guerreno, Benitez, Kruspzky; Nievas, Banega; Delgadillo, Canteros, Gudino; Sosa Sanchez.
  • Newell’s Old Boys (vs Estudiantes): Aguerre; Compagnucci, Lema, Mansilla, Negri; Sforza; Giani, Castro, Cacciabue, Sordo; Scocco.

Neither side has any fresh injury or suspension concerns going into this game.

Player to watch: Nicolas Castro (Newell’s Old Boys)

Justo Giani recorded a hat-trick of assists in Newell’s Old Boys’ 4-2 win over Estudiante last time out (and added a goal) but he remains behind Nicolas Castro as the main man for the club this season. Castro scored two goals in the win and set up Giani’s strike, to take his total tally for the season to five goal involvements, scoring two and recording three assists.

No player in the Argentine Primera Division has been directly involved in more goals than Nicolas Castro, who also recorded a brace of assists in the 3-2 win over Talleres. The only game in which Castro failed to get involved in a goal was Newell’s Old Boys’ 1-0 defeat to Argentinos Juniors, and in total he has been responsible for 71.4% of his side’s league goals.
