Palmeiras vs Fluminense build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:
Palmeiras are the most-successful side in Brazilian Serie A history, winning the title 10 times, but have had to watch on over the past two years as Flamengo wrap up back-to-back glories. However, they have made a good start to their quest to win a first league title since 2018, having won nine of their opening 12 games so far. Palmeiras are the joint-top scorers in the Brazilian Serie A, netting 24 times, but they have also been fairly leaky in defence, conceding 12. They go into this game against Fluminense off the back of six consecutive league wins and they also secured their spot in the quarter-finals of the Copa Libertadores in midweek.
In contrasting fashion, the 2021 Brazilian Serie A campaign has been one to forget for Fluminense who are currently languishing around mid-table. Fluminense have only lost three of their 12 league games so far this season, but they have been dropping more points through their five draws, accompany four wins. Last time out, a 1-0 home defeat to Gremio ended Fluminense’s four-game unbeaten run across all competitions which included a 2-0 win over Cerro Porteno in the first leg of their Copa Libertadores last-16 tie – with the return fixture not scheduled to be played until the start of August.
- Palmeiras (vs Universidad Catolica): Weverton; Rocha, Melo, Gomez, Renan; Danilo, Ze Rafael; Veiga, Scarpa, Wesley; Deyverson.
- Fluminense (vs Gremio): Muriel; Calegari, Manoel, Luccas Claro, Egidio; Wellington, Martinelli; Luiz Henrique, Ganso, Gabriel Teixeira; Hernandez.
Palmeiras have no fresh concerns but remain without Ronni, Luiz Adriano, Lucas Esteves and Gabriel Menino, while Hudson, Raul Bobadilla and Nino are absent for Fluminense.

Player to watch: Gustavo Scarpa (Palmeiras)
As previously mentioned, Palmeiras are the joint-top scorers in the Brazilian Serie A so far this season with 24 goals, and Gustavo Scarpa has certainly played his part.
The 27-year-old attacking midfielder has been directly involved in 10 goals for Palmeiras in the league this season, scoring three and recording seven assists. His tally of seven assists is more than any other player in the league, two clean of Artur and Hulk, and comes as a result of Scarpa’s clear creativity. Scarpa also leads the way in the league for chances created with 35, at an average of 3.67 per 90 minutes.
A danger both from open play and set pieces, Scarpa has been the league’s most-frequent crosser this season with 84 attempts, constantly peppering balls into opposition boxes.
