Kyrgios entered the Halle Open as a wildcard and was placed in the bottom half of the draw, pit against Germany’s Daniel Altmaier in the first round. It was a fairly routine win for the Australian, with Kyrgios emerging victorious after two sets, 6-3, 7-5. That set up an intriguing second round tie against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

A tough test of Kyrgios, the 27-year-old did lose the first set to the world no. 6 but fought back to win the second and took the match after a close third set, winning 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. But Kyrgios did allow some frustration to seep back into his game against Tsitsipas, smashing a racket after losing the first set and then arguing with the chair umpire in the second – also receiving a warning for time wasting.

Carreno-Busta, meanwhile, has been quietly going about his business as the tournament’s sixth seed and will be looking to cause an upset against Kyrgios. The Spaniard started the Halle Open with a first round victory over Dane Holger Rune in straight sets, winning 6-3, 7-6 (5) to set up a match with American Sebastian Korda.

Things weren’t as straightforward in the second round and after taking a close first set, Carreno Busta was hit for a bagel to take the match to a decider. However, he did have a quality to come out on top, breaking Korda’s serve to win 6-4, 0-6, 6-3.

Prediction: Nick Kyrgios to win in two sets
