AFCON winners Senegal will hoping to keep their winning run going in Qatar.

In 2002, Senegal became just the second African side to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup, in 2022 they will be hoping they can go at least one step further.

After lifting their first ever AFCON trophy in February, Aliou Cisse’s side will be full of confidence heading to Qatar and will be looking to make history for the second time this year.

With clean sheet machine Edouard Mendy between the sticks and two time penalty hero Sadio Mane in attack, this could be the year that Senegal have their best ever tournament finish.

Senegal to win 2022 World Cup odds

You can find Senegal at 80/1 to win the 2022 World Cup.

Senegal finished top of their qualifying group, winning five and drawing one of their six games before beating Egypt on penalties for the second time in 2022 to earn their place in Qatar.

This will be just their third World Cup tournament and they will be hoping to match if not better their best finish in 2022, when they were knocked out in the quarter-finals.

Senegal’s potential path to 2022 World Cup final

Senegal have been drawn in Group A alongside Netherlands, Ecuador and Qatar.

They kick off the tournament on the opening day with a tough fixture against the Netherlands, before facing hosts Qatar and ending the group stage with South American side Ecuador.

Senegal 2022 World Cup group stage fixtures

21 November: Netherlands (10am UK time)

25 November: Qatar (1pm UK time)

29 November: Ecuador (3pm UK time)

If Senegal win Group A

  • If Senegal were to win Group A, this would be their route through to the final, with no complications as only the top two sides go through.
  • Last 16: The runners-up of Group B, which consists of England, USA, Iran and Scotland/Wales/Ukraine, in Al Rayyan on 3rd December.
  • Quarter-finals: The winner of Match 50, which is played between the winner of Group C (Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland) and the Group D runners-up (France, Denmark, Tunisia and Peru/UAE/Australia)
  • Semi-finals: The winner of Match 58 which will include one of the Group E or Group G winners, or runners-up from Group F or H. Involved in these groups are the likes of Spain, Germany, Belgium, Croatia, Brazil, Portugal and Uruguay.

If Senegal qualify from Group A

  • If Senegal finish second in Group A, they will go to the other side of the bracket.
  • Last 16: The winners of Group B in Al Khor on 4th December.
  • Quarter-finals: The winner of Match 52, played between Group D winners and Group C runners-up.
  • Semi-finals: The winner of Match 60, which could include the Group F or H winners, or runners-up from Group E or G.

No African side have ever made it past the quarter-final stages of the World Cup, but Senegal can be the ones to make history for the second time this year.

Aliou Cisse’s side are best priced 5/1 to win their group and 10/11 to qualify for the last 16.
