Costa Rica odds: To win 2022 World Cup, how far will they go, top scorer and more

The 2022 World Cup will be Costa Rice’s third consecutive appearance at the tournament and they will be hoping for a repeat of 2014.
The majority of Los Ticos’ World Cup appearances have come this century and they’ve only missed one tournament since 1998, though they don’t often last too long, bowing out at the group stages.
However, fans will remember 2014 when they topped their group ahead of Uruguay, Italy and England en route to the quarter-finals where they lost to Netherlands on penalties – a game remembered for Tim Krul being subbed on for the shootout.
So can Costa Rica go one better in Qatar?
Costa Rica to win 2022 World Cup odds
You can find Costa Rica at 500/1 to win the tournament this winter.
Although Costa Rica may not be among the favourites to win the World Cup, there is a possibility that their starting odds are so high as they were the last team to secure their spot in Qatar.

As one of the top Concacaf teams, Costa Rica entered World Cup qualifying in the third and final round alongside Mexico, USA, Jamaica and Honduras. But that didn’t guarantee them a good chance of qualifying.
The third round of Concacaf qualifying was an extremely close affair with just three points separating the top four, three of whom automatically qualified for the World Cup. Costa Rica were the unlucky fourth, finishing behind third-placed USA on goal difference having beat the Americans on the final day. With the second-best defence in the group, Costa Rica were left ruing their 13 goals scored in 14 games.
As a result of their fourth-placed finish, Costa Rica advanced to the inter-confederation play-offs against the OFC play-off winner, and beat New Zealand to secure their spot at the World Cup.
The third round was much better and Iran only dropped four points from their 10 games to top Group A, two points clear of second-placed South Korea with both sides qualifying for the World Cup.
Costa Rica’s potential path to 2022 World Cup final
As one of the unknown teams when the draw was made, Costa Rica were placed in Pot 4 and had to wait a long time to find out their potential group. And it could have gone better…
Costa Rica were placed in Group E alongside former world champions Spain and Germany, as well as a tricky Japan side – requiring a lot to make it out of the group stage.
They start their World Cup group stage against Spain, before games against Japan and finally Germany. The games will be split between Al Rayyan, Doha and Al Khor.

Costa Rica will be playing their sixth World Cup in Qatar after making their debut at Italia 90, reaching the round of 16. They then had to wait 12 years for their next appearance in South Korea and Japan where they bowed out of the group stage.
Another group stage exit followed in 2006 and Costa Rica failed to qualify for 2010, before their excellent showing at 2014. Uruguay and Italy were beaten in the group (with England holding Costa Rica to a draw after top spot was already secured and the Three Lions couldn’t get off bottom) and Greece also fell in the knockout stages before the quarter-final exit.
They followed that up with another disappointing performance, exiting at the group stage in Russia.
