Partizan will be hoping to tighten their grip on a EuroLeague playoff spot this week. Even though we’re still not even halfway through the season, sometimes good EuroLeague campaigns can be built off fast starts, allowing room for drops in form later in the year. And it could be even more crucial right now, as we have a very tight group fighting for the playoffs and the added bonus of avoiding a play-in.

There are currently five teams level on seven wins from 13 games, one of which is Partizan, and they lead the way in the sixth and final automatic playoff spot right now. Of course, anything can change week-by-week, and a loss here could see the Serbian side drop down the rankings. But Partizan are on a decent run of form right now, ending an inconsistent start to the campaign with three consecutive wins over Panathinaikos, Monaco and Olimpia Milano — though they did need overtime to beat the former two.

Zalgiris, meanwhile, are one of the eight teams with a negative record right now and outside the play-in spots. And they have more of a mountain to climb than some of the teams above them. While a 5-8 record after 13 games isn’t a disaster, it does leave Zalgiris two wins off the play-in places, meaning there is work to be done if the Lithuanian side harbour playoff hopes.

The hosts actually started the season well with three wins from their opening four games, but they then suffered four consecutive losses to fall down the rankings. Even when that run was ended in victory, Zalgiris haven’t been able to find consistency with two wins from their last five, including back-to-back losses going into this game.
