Dayana Yastremska has made history by becoming the first qualifier to reach the Australian Open semi-finals since 1978.
Yastremska easily defeated Czech teenager Linda Noskova 6-3 6-4 in just 78 minutes to advance to the semifinals.
Yastremska is set to play against Zheng Qinwen. Zheng, seeded 12th, rallied to defeat Anna Kalinskaya 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 6-1.
Both Zheng and Yastremska will be playing in their first major semi-final. Zheng had made it to the quarter-finals at the US Open last year.
Yastremska is the second qualifier in the Open era to reach the Aussie Open last four after Christine Dorey in the 1978 tournament.
Yastremska is just two wins away from following in the footsteps of Emma Raducanu, the only qualifier in history to win a major title with her 2021 US Open triumph.
Zheng is the third Chinese major semifinalist in history. Li Na, the winner of this event in 2014, and Zheng Jie, who reached two major semifinals, have paved the way for Zheng.
The victory guarantees that Zheng will make her Top 10 debut in the next edition of the WTA rankings after the Australian Open. She will become the second Chinese player, following Li, to be ranked in that echelon.
Zheng and Yastremska are the seventh and eighth players born in 2000 or later to make the last four of a major, following Amanda Anisimova, Bianca Andreescu, Iga Swiatek, Emma Raducanu, Leylah Fernandez and Coco Gauff.
