Uruguay vs Namibia preview
It is difficult to assess how Uruguay are feeling after their opening two pool matches. On the one hand, they were well in both of them and, in the end, the defeats were fairly narrow against two Tier 1 nations.
However, Los Teros were ahead against Italy at the break and capitulated to the extent that they lost the second half 24-0. For a team full of such pride it will have hurt the South Americans to have succumbed in that way, regardless of how well Italy regrouped.
Namibia are looking like potentially the worst team in the tournament. This is their final pool match having played all three Tier 1 nations and there was little to suggest in any of the matches that the gap is closing for the Southern African side.
This is Namibia’s best chance at a World Cup victory since their narrow defeat to Georgia in 2015, so there is no doubt that they will be up for the match. It is just a case of whether the Welwitschias have the quality to stand up to Uruguay.
