Ranked 17th in the world, Tommy Paul has done exceptionally well to reach the semi-finals at Indian Wells. The American has already knocked out two higher-ranked players in Ugo Humbert (14) and Casper Ruud (9) in a four-game run that’s seen him drop just one set so far. Of course, we shouldn’t be surprised, given Paul has won 14 of his 18 games in 2024 so far and already lifted the Dallas Open trophy this year — just his second-ever ATP title.

Things will become altogether more difficult in the semi-final, however, as Daniil Medvedev lies in wait. The Russian is ranked fourth in the world and only behind Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner right now, while he’s made light work of some tough opposition at this tournament so far; including beating world No.7 Holger Rune and No.13 Grigor Dimitrov in the last two rounds without dropping a set. Medvedev has won 13 of his 15 games in 2024 so far, reaching the final of the Australian Open along the way.

These two players have met just twice before, with Medvedev winning on both occasions.
