South Africa vs Tonga preview

South Africa shouldn’t feel too badly about their pool stage defeat to Ireland last time out. The match was incredibly evenly matched and it could’ve easily have been the Springboks sitting pretty at the top of Pool B.

The Boks will be keen to make this a bonus point victory just to keep Scotland at bay from believing that they have a chance of qualification.

Tonga can feel a bit unfortunate to have drawn this group with three in-form Tier One nations in it. Tonga have never reached the World Cup quarter-finals, and have only scored more than one win twice, in 2007 and 2011.

It is difficult to fully ascertain the strength of Tonga given the strength of Ireland and Scotland. However, they clearly offer an attacking threat having reached double figures very comfortably in both matches.
