When are Ryder Cup pairings confirmed? Friday and Saturday pairings announcement times
The Ryder Cup returns this weekend as Team Europe attempt to wrestle back the trophy they surrendered to the United States in 2021.
Rome’s Marco Simone Golf and Country Club will play host to the 2023 renewal, with the sights of captains Luke Donald and Zach Johnson fixed firmly on how best to steer their charges to the 14.5 points required for victory.
If the travelling US team can navigate their way to that total in Italy this week, they will retain the trophy and, perhaps more importantly, end a 30-year wait for Ryder Cup success on European soil.
Team Europe are defending a fine home run dating back to that 1993 defeat at The Belfry in Warwickshire.
The 12 golfers representing each team are now confirmed and fans are waiting eagerly to see who will pair up as captains Donald and Johnson set their line-ups for the team events.
When are Ryder Cup pairings confirmed?
Friday foursomes: The Ryder Cup will begin with foursomes golf on Friday morning, with four pairs from each team competing. Captains Donald and Johnson will introduce their 12-man teams and give welcome speeches at Thursday’s opening ceremony, which begins at 4pm (BST and local time).
At this point, team captains will also announce the pairings for Friday’s opening team event.
Friday fourballs: Pairings for the first day’s fourballs will be announced as the foursomes draws to a close on Friday morning. The captains will be required to submit their line-ups between 11.45am and 12pm on the Friday morning.
Saturday foursomes: Donald and Johnson will both hold press conferences after Friday’s play, when they will announce the pairings for Saturday morning.
Saturday fourballs: The final team event will then begin on Saturday afternoon at 12.25pm. Pairings for Saturday’s fourballs will be announced no later than 12pm on the penultimate day of the competition.
