The 2024 Community Shield takes place at 3pm on Saturday 10th August and it’s a Manchester derby. Manchester City take their spot as reigning Premier League champions and are contesting the Community Shield for the fourth season running. However, they have lost each of their past three appearances in the Community Shield.
Last year they were beaten by Arsenal on penalties, having lost 3-1 to Liverpool in 2022 and 1-0 to Leicester in 2021. On both of those occasions it was the FA Cup winner lifting the trophy, while last year Arsenal earned their spot as Premier League runners-up.
Manchester United are the FA Cup holders and beat Man City for that trophy just a few months ago. They may take heart from the fact that the FA Cup holders — or their replacement — have won the Community Shield in each of the past four seasons.
The Red Devils haven’t been in the Community Shield since 2016 when they were the FA Cup holders, beating Premier League champions Leicester 2-1.
