Novak Djokovic is the defending ATP Finals champion and travelled to Turin hoping to take the record for most wins outright, currently tied with Roger Federer on six successes. He’s now one win away, having already guaranteed to end the year as world no.1. It’s deserving too, with three Grand Slam wins (only losing in the final at Wimbledon) and two ATP Masters victories from just four tournaments entered.
The Serbian didn’t have it easy on his way to the final of the tournament, losing to his upcoming opponent. He did open with victory over Holger Rune before losing to Jannik Sinner in three sets. Qualification to the semifinals was secured with victory over Hubert Hurkacz, who had come in for the injured Stefanos Tsitsipas. In the semifinals there was a matchup worthy of any final, with Djokovic seeing off world no.2 Carlos Alcaraz in a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Sinner, meanwhile, is at the ATP Finals for just the second time. His only previous experience before this year was a round robin exit in 2021. The Italian has had a good year, lifting himself up to fourth in the world and fourth seed for the ATP Finals. He reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon, as well as the Indian Wells Masters and Monte-Carlo Masters. Sinner was runner-up in Miami and clinched his maiden ATP Masters victory at the Canadian Open.
Joining Djokovic, Rune and Tsitsipas in Green group, Sinner finished top with three wins from three. He opened with victory over Tsistipas in straight sets, before taking down Djokovic in three. Rune was also beaten in three sets, to send Sinner into the semi-final against Daniil Medvedev. There was another three-set victory in the semi-final, with Sinner advancing thanks to his 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-1 win.
Prediction: Novak Djokovic in three sets
