Draper has found himself in decent form so far in 2024, winning 13 of his 22 matches to this point. Much of that success came earlier on in the year, but he has already seen off Borna Coric of Croatia in straight sets at this tournament. As a result, Draper has climbed to No.40 in the world but perhaps more importantly for him, he now finds himself just 10 places in the ATP rankings behind current British No.1 Cameron Norrie. With Wimbledon fast approaching, Draper will be looking to overtake Norrie and become Britain’s foremost representative at the tournament.

Before Draper can think any further, however, he has an immense challenge ahead of him as he prepares to take on Daniil Medvedev. The 28-year-old Russian is ranked fourth in the world right now and has won 22 of his 28 matches so far this year in a run that’s seen him reach the Australian Open final, losing 3-2 to Jannik Sinner after leading 2-0. Medvedev is the reining champion in Rome after beating Holger Rune in straight sets in last year’s final and he’ll be keen to take another step toward his 21st ATP title here.
