Then, in the doubles match, Barrios Vera and Tabilo beat Filip Bergevi and Andre Goransson in straight sets.
Italy, meanwhile, are fighting for their lives but they will fancy their chances of taking control in their second tie. The Italians have three of their players in the top 50 for singles, and the other two are in the top 50 for doubles, a fine composition of a team.
Lorenzo Musetti is the world no.18, joined by Lorenzo Sonego, Matteo Arnaldi, Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli. However, both Sonego and Musetti were beaten in their singles games against Canada, losing to Alexis Galarneau and Gabriel Diallo in straight sets respectively. In the doubles, Bolelli and Arnaldi took a one-set lead before losing to Galarneau and Vasek Pospisil.
