World no.1 Iga Swiatek gets her Australian Open underway, hoping to win the tournament for the first time. Hoping to end Swiatek’s latest Australian Open attempt at the first hurdle is a former winner. Sofia Kenin won the Australian Open in 2020, during a good year in which she also reached the final of the French Open, rising as high as fourth in the world. Unfortunately, she struggled for form and with injuries in the years since, dropping out of the top 200.

But Kenin is on her way back up, rising to 41 in the world, reaching the semi-finals of the Guadalajara Open, beating Jelena Ostapenko on the way. It is worth noting, though, that since winning the Australian Open in 2020, Kenin has lost in the second round once and first round twice.
