Preparation for the Australian Open continues and the first tournament of the year, the Brisbane International, has hit the quarter-final stage. Holger Rune is the top seed for the tournament, with the likes of Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev all yet to return. James Duckworth is ranked 112th in the world and entered the Brisbane International as a wildcard, given the chance to feature in the tournament in his home country. The Australian has been a regular at the Brisbane International, even winning his first ever ATP match at the tournament in 2012. Often switching between direct entries and having to go through qualifying, given his low ranking this year Duckworth did have to take on qualifying where he beat Philip Sekulic and Gregoire Barrere.

In the first round of the main draw, Duckworth beat JJ Wolf in straight sets before coming from a set down to secure a 4-6, 6-1, 7-2(2) victory over Yannick Hanfmann last time out.
