Going into the final round of ties in the Davis Cup Finals group stage, Great Britain still need a win to secure their spot in November’s quarter-finals. Hosting Group B in Manchester, Great Britain have won both of their opening two ties but the way the tiebreakers work, they aren’t yet safe — despite all the other sides at 2-0 already being through.

A win would be the most straightforward route for Great Britain, but defeat would also be okay as long as Switzerland beat Australia. If Australia and France win, the pair will be tied alongside Great Britain with 2-1 records and it could do down to match wins, or even the percentage of match or set wins.

Great Britain started their Davis Cup group stage with a 2-1 win over Australia. In the singles matches, Jack Draper beat Thanasi Kokkinakis and Dan Evans beat Alex de Minaur, but Evans and Neal Skupski lost the doubles match — which could prove crucial.

At the same time, France were perfect in their opening group stage tie, with Adrian Mannarino and Ugo Humbert beating Dominic Stricker and Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland respectively. Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin then wrapped up the clean sweep in the doubles. However, France weren’t able to build on that, losing their second tie against Australia.

Mannarino beat Max Purcell in the opening match but Humbert lost to De Minaur and then Mahut and Roger-Vasselin were beaten by Purcell and Matthew Ebden in the deciding doubles match.

Great Britain’s second tie saw Andy Murray get his first showing and the Scot came from behind to beat Leandro Riedi in the opening match. Things were level at the end of the singles matches, however, with Cameron Norrie losing to Stan Wawrinka. But, Evans and Skupski got their doubles win over Stricker and Wawrinka to had Great Britain the win.

Prediction: Great Britain 2-1 France
