The first bout between these two behemoths was a barnstormer. Usyk became the first four-belt heavyweight champion of the modern era when he beat Fury by a split decision in May. But it was never just going to be one fight. The split decision, which some felt was a bit controversial in Fury’s favour, set us up for this rematch.
In the first fight, Usyk started off on top before Fury got back into things. As it reached the ninth round, Fury was knocked down by Usyk who received a standing eight count. But Usyk didn’t capitalise, allow Fury to finish on a high. After the results, Fury stated his claim that he thought he had won the majority of the rounds, with Usyk getting some sympathy. And so the road to the rematch started almost immediately as Fury confirmed his clause.

Once again, this bout is for all the marbles. Usyk is putting his WBC, WBO and WBA heavyweight titles on the line. Usyk had already held the WBO and WBA titles alongside the IBF belt, winning the WBC title from Fury. But the IBF title will not be on the line, with Usyk having to vacate — of course, Daniel Dubois now holds that belt after beating Anthony Joshua in September.

As well as the belts, Fury will also be looking for revenge. The loss against Usyk in May was the first of Fury’s professional boxing career. Fury’s record before that stood at 34 wins and one draw against Deontay Wilder. Usyk remains perfect, with 22 wins from 22 bouts, 14 of which have come via knockout.
