The 36-year-old Djokovic has dropped just two sets in six matches to reach this stage, most recently seeing off two American players in Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton in straight sets.
But while Djokovic’s form is looking ominous, Medvedev’s threat cannot be ignored. The Russian is now ranked third in the world in a year where he’s won 55 of his 66 matches overall, while beating Alcaraz in the semi-finals was one hell of a statement. Medvedev’s Grand Slam journey got off to a slow start this year, exiting the Australian and French Opens at the third and first round stages, respectively, but the 27-year-old did reach the Wimbledon semi-finals most recently.
This will be the 15th meeting between these two players, with Djokovic holding a 9-5 advantage. However, it’s important to remember Medvedev’s only Grand Slam final win to date (he’s lost three) was a straight sets victory against Djokovic in this very tournament two years ago.
