The 2023/24 EuroLeague action keeps coming as we edge closer to the Christmas period and on Thursday there’s a meeting between two teams who will undoubtedly be hoping they can get a winning run going. Hosts Crvena zvezda are currently 16th in the table with just four wins from their 13 games so far, already three victories off the play-in spot. It’s a bit of a contrast to last season where, although they didn’t qualify for the playoffs, Crvena zvezda did have a record of 17-17 to finish 10th — which would scrape a play-in place right now.

Crvena zvezda’s poor start has played a factor in where they currently stand in the table, winning just two of their opening six games and actually going on a four-match losing run between the victories. They have then been unable to build any form of momentum, following up victory with defeat, and they go into this game off the back of two consecutive losses against Valencia and Baskonia.

But ALBA Berlin are doing worse. The German side prop up the EuroLeague table and look on course to another disappointing campaign. Since making the jump up to EuroLeague from EuroCup in 2019, ALBA Berlin are yet to make it to the playoffs, finishing with a negative record in each season including in 2019/20 when the campaign was cut short.

So far this season, ALBA Berlin have managed just two wins from their 13 games, and sit below LDLC ASVEL in the table firstly on points difference but they would also be lower on head-to-head having lost to their French counterparts — though head-to-head only comes into play once both games are played. Olimpia Milano and Zalgiris are the only teams to lose to ALBA Berlin so far, but the former was followed by a six-game losing streak and the latter preceded a 97-89 defeat to Anadolu Efes last time out.
