Very much an outsider as the world No.106, Garin has done an incredible job to reach this stage in Munich, already knocking out three players above him in the world rankings and dropping just one set along the way. By far his most impressive result was beating world No.5 and German star Alexander Zverev in straight sets in what was his 11th win in 20 overall matches this year. Garin is looking to make his first ATP final since 2021 and given the habit he’s made of causing shocks over the years, he’ll fancy his chances.
However, Taylor Fritz will present another tough test. The American has lost just six of his 20 matches so far this year and has looked formidable at this tournament, dropping just one set to reach this stage and most impressively coming from 1-0 down to beat British rising star Jack Draper 2-1 last time out. The world No.15 is looking to reach his first major final since 2022, but has shown plenty of signs this year that he’s on the cusp of real success; not least reaching this year’s Australian Open quarter-finals.
This will be the third meeting between these two players, with each winning one apiece so far, Fritz most recently in straight sets at the Madrid Open last year.
