Fresh from going all the way to the Monte-Carlo Masters final — eventually falling in straight sets to Stefanos Tsitsipas — Casper Ruud is enjoying another run here at the Barcelona Open. The Norwegian — currently ranked No.6 in the world — is yet to drop a set in Spain so far, most impressively beating Jordan Thompson and Matteo Arnaldi, ranked 33rd and 40th in the world respectively, in the last two rounds. That has all served to extend Ruud’s run in 2024 to 27 wins from 34 matches overall, including an impressive 9-2 record on clay.
Etcheverry, meanwhile, has been almost as impressive, with USA’s Brandon Nakashima the only player to take a set from him at this tournament so far. The Argentine’s most impressive result in Barcelona so far was undoubtedly the straight-sets victory over British No.1 Cameron Norrie in the previous round, which extended his record this year to 11 wins from 20 matches, with a 9-5 return on clay.
This will be just the second-ever head-to-head meeting between these two players, with Ruud winning the only previous one 2-1 at the China Open back in October last year.
