We’re into the semi-finals of the China Open and world no.2 Carlos Alcaraz will be hoping to take a step towards another trophy this year. The Spaniard will have been upset about losing out his world no.1 sport at the US Open, and then losing to Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals. But now it’s about the road to the ATP Finals and building momentum.
Alcaraz has already won six titles this year including at Wimbledon, though he has suffered a bit since beating Novak Djokovic in SW19. But the Spaniard is yet to drop at set at the China Open this year, beating Yannick Hanfmann, Lorenzo Musetti and Casper Ruud in straight sets, the latter a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
Jannik Sinner, meanwhile, will be hoping to take a step closer to securing an ATP Finals spot with his run at the China Open. The Italian is now fourth in the rankings, the highest-placed player yet to book his spot, with the top seven automatically qualifying.
After winning the Canadian Open, Sinner fell early in Cincinnati and then only made it to the fourth round of the US Open. In China, Sinner overcame a tough first match against Dan Evans in three sets, before beating Yoshihito Nishioka in two and Grigor Dimitrov, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
