The Community Shield has been a fairly quiet affair of late, with four of the past seven finals going to penalties. However, those four games have all been level at 1-1 after 90 minutes — with no extra-time in the Community Shield.

In fact, there hasn’t been a goalless draw in the Community Shield since 2008 when Manchester United beat Portsmouth on penalties. Since then, there have been 15 Community Shield matches with a total of 42 goals scored at an average of 2.8 per game.

The highest-scoring games came in 2011 and 2012, win which five goals were scored. They were both 3-2 wins and won was the last time Manchester City and Man Utd met in the Community Shield. Then, Joleon Lescott and Edin Dzeko gave Man City a first-half lead before Chris Smalling and Nani pulled Man Utd level before the hour-mark. And Nani won the game for Man Utd deep into injury time.

A year later, Man City were on the right end of a 3-2 win, this time beating Chelsea in the final — held at Villa Park as Wembley was hosting the Olympics. Man City came from behind in that game, trailing 1-0 before leading 3-1 as Chelsea went down to 10 men. The Citizens have, however, lost the last three Community Shields to Arsenal, Liverpool and Leicester.
