The Eastbourne International is the first time Williams has hit the tennis courts in almost a year due to injury and the most successful player in history has been using the tournament as a warm up for Wimbledon, which she will enter as a wild card – ranked 1,204th in the world. Williams’ partner for the Eastbourne International is world no.3 Ons Jabeur who had withdrawn from the singles tournament after winning the Berlin Open last week.

It was an exciting first match for the pair of Jabeur and Williams as they came from behind to win a super tie breaker, beating the team of Marie Bouzkova and Sara Sorribes Tormo 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (13-11).

Their opponents also needed a super tie breaker to make it through their first round clash with Aoyama and Chan beating Lucie Hradecka and Sania Mirza 7-5, 6-7, 1-0 (10-7). While Jabeur/Williams is a new partnership, Aoyama and Chan have been building chemistry in their pairing since teaming up in March at the Miami Open.

In 18 games as a duo, Aoyama/Chan have won nine times, with their best performances coming in the Stuttgart Open and Nottingham Open where they reached the semi-finals.

Prediction: Ons Jabeur and Serena Williams to win in two sets
