Fans will be treated to a rematch of last year’s Wimbledon final when Ons Jabeur takes on Elena Rybakina in the quarter-finals. But Rybakina went on to beat Alize Cornet and Katie Boulter in straight sets, the latter a commanding 6-1, 6-1 victory to end the hometown favourite’s fairytale. Rybakina was then 4-1 up in the first leg of her fourth round match against Beatriz Haddad Maia before the Brazilian had to retire due to injury.
After her defeat to Rybakina at Wimbledon, Jabeur went on to reach the showcase at the US Open but it was another loss, this time to Iga Swiatek in straight sets. At her peak, Jabeur was second in the world but she has dropped down slightly to sixth, in part due to her second-round exit at the Australian Open and poor showings on the WTA 1000 Tour.
There was a quarter-final run at the French Open, her best ever showing, and now she’s in the final eight at Wimbledon for the third straight year. Like Rybakina, Jabeur has only dropped one set at Wimbledon so far, beating Magdalena Frech and Zhuoxuan Bai in straight sets before coming from behind to beat Bianca Andreescu. Then, last time out, Jabeur was comfortable in her 6-0, 6-3 victory over ninth seed Petra Kvitova.
