Ons Jabeur was the beaten finalist at Wimbledon last year but she’s still in with a chance of reaching the showpiece once again, as she searches for a first Grand Slam win. Last year’s Wimbledon was the first time Jabeur had reached the final of a major and she followed that up with another final appearance at the US Open, this time losing to Iga Swiatek — finishing the year as World No.2.

The Tunisian opened 2023 with a disappointing second-round exit at the Australian Open but has re-found form in reaching the quarter-finals of the French Open and now the semi-finals of Wimbledon. En route to the quarter-finals, Magdalena Frech, Zhuoxuan Bai, Bianca Andreescu and Petra Kvitova were beaten with just one set dropped. And then, in a rematch of last year’s final, Jabeur got her own back, coming from behind to beat defending champion Elena Rybakina (5) 6-7, 6-4, 6-1.

But on the other side of this match is world No.2 Aryna Sabalenka, who is looking to win her second Grand Slam of the year. While Iga Swiatek dominates the WTA rankings, Sabalenka has been quietly going about her business, ready to pounce when the Pole slips, and she’s consistently performing when it matters. The Belarusian ended 2022 with a semi-final appearance at the US Open and followed that up by winning the Australian Open, beating Rybakina.

Then, Sabalenka reached the semi-finals of the French Open and now she’s in the final four at Wimbledon for the second time. Sabalenka’s route to the semi-final started with victory over Panna Udvardy and has since seen her beat Varvara Gracheva, Anna Blinkova and Ekaterina Alexandrova. In the quarter-finals, Madison Keys was the opponent but Sabalenka made light work of the match with a 6-2, 6-4 victory — the only semi-finalist to win in straight sets.

Prediction: Aryna Sabalenka in three sets
