Olympiacos started the 2022/23 EuroLeague season in fine form, winning each of their opening four matches, beating Barcelona, Zalgiris, Real Madrid and Baskonia. Their domination of Spain’s teams (and one from Lithuania) had Olympiacos as one of the last two perfect teams in EuroLeague alongside Fenerbahce. For some, they may have been amongst the favourites to push for top spot in the regular season, giving them a good placing for the playoffs – though there is still a long way to go in the campaign.

However, Olympiacos have stuttered in recent weeks. First, they were beaten by Monaco to endure their first defeat of the EuroLeague season, giving up a half-time advantage to eventually losing 81-76. Then they made it two defeats from two as Spain finally got their own back, with Valencia winning 83-82. Again it was another lead let slip, only this time a lot more drastic, as Olympiacos went into the final quarter ahead by 13 points.

For Partizan, the campaign has gone in reverse. The Serbian side opened the 2022/23 EuroLeague campaign with three-straight defeats, beaten by ALBA Berlin, Baskonia and Olimpia Milano. Things weren’t looking good for Partizan, especially as they will obviously harbour hopes of reaching the playoffs having failed to do so in each of the past two seasons.

But then it started to click. In round four, Partizan got their first win of the season, beating Virtus Bologna very comfortably, dominating in all quarters to take the 90-62 victory. They then beat Zalgiris 87-76 with Kevin Punter making 26 points, a tally he would better last time out against Panathinaikos. In Greece, Punter scored 29 points to secure Partizan a narrow 91-89 victory, which was built on a 15-point lead in the opening quarter.
