Novak Djokovic returns to the court for the first time since suffering elimination from last month’s French Open quarter-finals to eventual winner Rafa Nadal, and he will be hoping to defend his Wimbledon crown for the third successive year. If the Serb does so, then he will become only the fifth man in the Open Era to record four successive major singles titles at one tournament.

The No. 3 seed kickstarts his 2022 Wimbledon journey against South Korean right-hander Kwon Soon-woo, who has appeared at the previous two tournaments in South West London, but the 24-year-old has never made it past the Second Round, losing his curtain-raiser to Karen Khachanov in 2019 and then getting knocked out in 2021 by Dominik Koepfer.

It’s a tall order for Soon-woo to take down the three-time defending champion, who will be hoping to move level with William Renshaw and Pete Sampras as the joint-second-most successful men’s player in Wimbledon history. The six-time winner can also move just one Grand Slam behind all-time record-holder Roger Federer, who has claimed eight titles in the English capital.
