Nottingham Forest are looking to create another FA Cup upset when they host Liverpool in their quarter-final tie at the City Ground on Sunday evening (18:00 UK time).

This will be the hosts first appearance in this round since 1996 while the Reds since then have won the competition on two occasions albeit neither came under Jurgen Klopp’s leadership.

Nottingham Forest team news vs Liverpool:

  • Ins: None
  • Outs: Max Lowe, Loïc Mbe Soh, Lewis Grabban and Jordi Osei-Tutu
  • Doubts: None

You can hardly blame Steve Cooper for being excited ahead of this mammoth test for his Nottingham Forest side. For the first time since 1996 the club are looking forward to playing a FA Cup quarter-final tie and following wins over Arsenal and defending champions Leicester City, both at home, this season the Championship outfit are seeking to cause the biggest upset of them all.

But they must do so without an injured quartet consisting of Max Lowe, Loïc Mbe Soh, Lewis Grabban and Jordi Osei-Tutu but Cooper, a former Liverpool academy manager, will undoubtedly back those he selects in what could be a career-defining game for them. “I think it’s going to catch the imagination a little bit, and that’s important for us, for our supporters here, because we’re a big club as well,” he told reporters.

Liverpool team news vs Nottingham Forest:

  • Ins: None
  • Outs: Trent Alexander-Arnold
  • Doubts: James Milner, Konstantinos Tsimikas and Mohamed Salah

Chasing history is something that has become commonplace under Jurgen Klopp’s leadership at Liverpool but if they are to complete a historic and unprecedented quadruple then it’s imperative their big-hitters are continually available.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is arguably the best right-back in world football but the Reds must do without him for the next several weeks after he sustained a hamstring injury. Joe Gomez and James Milner are in contention to replace him, albeit the latter is facing a late fitness test, that being said, Klopp admits there’s very few who possess the same skillset as the England international.

“Trent is out with a hamstring, so he cannot be part of England too,” he told reporters. “Not good news, we will see how long that takes. Of course to replace Trent is difficult but possible.

“I don’t know any player who plays like Trent, so it’s difficult to find a one-to-one replacement. We have Milly [Milner], Joe, theoretically we can change the system as well, these kinds of things. So we have a couple of options.

“When you look in the past when Milly has had to step up he has done incredibly well. And if not, maybe we have a young solution.”

Elsewhere their leading marksman Mohamed Salah is doubtful. “Mo felt his foot again a little bit after the game, so we have to see what we do with that,” Klopp added.
