Both men will want to improve on their showing at the Stuttgart Open which saw them lose to Andy Murray on the Scotsman’s run to the final, with Kyrgios’ defeat coming in the semi-final. The 27-year-old has had a good year and is finding himself comfortable on grass leading into Wimbledon, while also moving away from some of the controversies for which he became known.

Kyrgios entered the Halle Open as a wildcard and was placed in the bottom half of the draw, pit against German Daniel Altmaier in the first round. And it was a fairly routine win for the Australian, with Kyrgios emerging victorious after two sets, 6-3, 7-5 without facing a break point.

Tsitsipas, on the other side of this draw, has had a good 2022, winning the Monte Carlo Masters as well as reaching the semi-final of the Australian Open and the final of the Italian Open. But on grass against Murray at the Stuttgart Open, the world no. 6 was taught a lesson by the Scot having been top seed for the tournament.

It hasn’t been straightforward at the Halle Open either. Tsitsipas, second seed for the tournament, needed three sets to beat Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi 7-6 (1), 1-6, 6-3 – particularly struggling in that second set. He’ll need to up his game to make it to the quarter-finals here.

Prediction: Nick Kyrgios to win in three sets
