Nice vs Lyon build-up & previous line-ups:
After their opening nine league games this season Nice find themselves sitting fourth in the young Ligue 1 table and 11 points behind early leaders Paris Saint-Germain albeit Christophe Galtier’s men have a game in hand. However momentum is not on their side after they suffered a 1-0 loss at Troyes last time out which ended a two-game winning streak. From a historical perspective, they’ve won four of their last six home games against Lyon in France’s top division, which is as many as in their previous 20 meetings against them on home soil. On top of that Nice, who have lost only one of their last 10 home games in Ligue 1, found the net in each of their last seven league games against Lyon (11 total goals scored).
Sitting level on points with Nice but two places below in Lyon who are unbeaten in four consecutive Ligue 1 games which is their best run since between September 2020 and January 2021 when they put together a 16-game unbeaten run. So far no other French top division club has mustered a longer current streak. A slight concern is the fact Lyon have lost two of their last four league away games after going unbeaten in their previous 17 (won 11 and drawn six). But what’s encouraging is the ease in which Lyon are getting their shots off; they’ve had 56 shots on target in Ligue 1 coming into this latest round of fixtures, which is more than any other team.
- Nice (vs Troyes): Benítez; Atal, Todibo, Dante, Kamara; Stengs, Lemina, Rosario, Boudaoui; Delort, Dolberg.
- Lyon (vs Sparta Prague): Lopes; Gusto, Boateng, Denayer, Henrique; Mendes, Guimarães; Shaqiri, Aouar, Toko Ekambi; Kadewere.

Player to watch: Karl Toko Ekambi (Lyon)
To say Karl Toko Ekambi began this season on a slow note is an understatement. The 29-year-old Cameroonian forward started each of Lyon’s opening six Ligue 1 matches and mustered just two assists. He’d come off the bench next time out against Troyes before registering his first goal against Lorient on matchday eight. Last time out he got back on the scoresheet meaning he’s scored twice across his last three games in France’s top flight which is as many as in his previous 18. This weekend’s opponents also happen to be Toko Ekambi’s favourite Ligue 1 opposition; across seven previous appearances — while representing Angers and then Lyon — he’s bagged six goals with one of those strikes coming in Les Gones away success (1-4) last season.
