Super Bowl Betting Tips
Super Bowl MVP
Seven quarterbacks have picked up the MVP award in past ten seasons, with the other three winner being LB Malcom Smith (XLVIII), LB Von Miller (LIII) and WR Julian Edelman (LIII). Thus QBs Matt Stafford (6/5 with PaddyPower) and Joe Burrow (9/4 with Bet365) will be strong bets for the title.
However, if you fancy a longer odds, Cincinnati gave up 55 sacks in the regular season and gave up nine sacks in their Divisional Round game against the Tennessee Titans. The Rams, meanwhile, were third in the league in sacks in 2021 with 50. Defensive tackle Aaron Donald (14/1 with Bet365) and linebacker Von Miller (40/1 with Bet365) deserve consideration.
It would be silly not to consider the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year, Rams wideout Cooper Kupp, and that’s our choice for Super Bowl MVP.
Anytime Touchdown Scorer
When looking at the anytime score market, Cooper Kupp is the likeliest option at 8/13 with SkyBet (10/3 with same provider to score a brace) – Kupp led the league in receiving touchdowns and scored in 11 of 17 regular season games. He also has at least one touchdown in every playoff game in 2021-22.
Ja’Marr Chase, the Bengals’ standout rookie receiver, is priced at 6/1 with SkyBet, however, he’ll be guarded by perennial all-pro Jalen Ramsey who is one of the best in game. The shrewder pick may be tight end C.J. Uzomah at 7/2 with SkyBet – although the Rams gave up just four tight end touchdowns in 2021.
Conversely, the Bengals gave up eight touchdowns – nine including Travis Kelce’s Conference Championship score – to tight ends in the regular season – joint-sixth in the NFL. Tyler Higbee at 7/2 with SkyBet is a route to pursue.
In the run game, the Bengals (16) were middle of the road in terms of rushing touchdowns scored, with the Rams (10) in the bottom five of the league, making the proposition of an anytime TD scorer unfavourable.
One to consider, quarterback Joe Burrow has five rushing touchdowns in his career – plus 12 in the final two years of his collegiate career. He’s 7/1 with SkyBet to rush into the endzone on Sunday.
Over/Under Total Points
The over/under for Super Bowl LVI total points currently sits at 48.5. Both the Bengals and the Rams averaged 27.1 points per game – 54.2 combined – and give up on average 22.1 and 21.9 points per game – 44 combined – respectively.
In the playoffs so far in 2021-22, five of the 12 contests have reached the 48.5 mark – one each for the Rams and Bengals.
The line seems pretty well set, but the under must be of consideration due to the weakness of the Bengals offensive line against the all-star talents of the Rams pass rush, potentially hampering the scoring capabilities of Cincinnati.
