Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the appointment of Ange Postecoglou on a four-year deal, ending his treble-achieving tenure at Celtic.

Postecoglou becomes Tottenham’s fourth permanent manager since the club parted ways with Mauricio Pochettino in 2019 — following on from Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte.

By joining the north London club, he becomes the first Australian coach to manage in the Premier League, having also mimicked that milestone in the Champions League.

“We are excited to have Ange join us,” Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said about his latest appointment.

“Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play. He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy – everything that is important to our club.”

A revered coach at Parkhead, Postecoglou captivated the Celtic Park terraces with his aesthetically-pleasing brand of attacking football, combining style and substance as he delivered tangible success to the club’s bulging trophy cabinet.

During his two years in Glasgow, the 57-year-old achieved back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles and also delivered the club a world-record eighth domestic treble this term, famously beating Old Firm rivals Rangers in the Scottish League Cup final back in February.

On top of being a very astute tactician who embraces a policy of permanent attack, Postecoglou has also been celebrated for his motivational skills, a notion reinforced by a famous speech he conducted in 2015 during his time as head coach of Australia…

It’s perhaps no wonder then why Celtic fans are saddened to see him go. Rounding up a collection of social media posts, we’ve looked at how supporters of the club have reacted to losing their ‘world-record breaking’ manager — and it looks like Spurs fans have plenty to be excited about…
