Ivan Zamorano is feeling “optimistic” about Arturo Vidal moving to Inter Milan from Barcelona in the summer.

Zamorano enjoyed five seasons at the Serie A giants, and his former club have recently been strongly linked with his Chilean compatriot Vidal.

Is a move to Inter on the cards for Vidal? Five key things to know…

  • Arturo Vidal joined Barcelona from Bayern Munich in 2018 for a reported £18m.
  • He’s since gone on to make 78 appearances in all competitions, registering nine goals and nine assists.
  • Vidal is currently suing the club over £2m in allegedly unpaid bonuses and is being linked with a move to Inter this summer.
  • He’s previously worked under Nerazzurri boss Antonio Conte at Juventus.
  • The former Inter striker Ivan Zamorano is “optimistic” about Vidal completing the move.

The 32-year-old Chilean midfielder since 2018 has represented Barcelona, against whom he’s currently taking legal action over a bonus dispute, though the Catalan giants stress he’s misinterpreted his contract.

That said, Vidal’s present deal at the Camp Nou expires in August 2021, but there have been rumblings over him being moved on before that contract is up with Barça preparing for a period of rejuvenation.

He’s subsequently been associated with a move back to Italy, where he enjoyed a successful spell with Juventus, with 111 of his 171 appearances coming under Antonio Conte now managing rivals Inter.

Vidal’s national teammate, Alexis Sanchez, is currently there on loan, but it remains to be seen whether that is made permanent given Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – the manager of his parent club Manchester United – stated recently that he’ll be proving everyone wrong next term.

Zamorano, however, feels a reunion at club level is on the cards and having established close contact with those at the heart of the matter, the man dubbed ‘Bam Bam’ is expecting Vidal to play for Conte again.

“He has a contract with Manchester United, but we’ll see where he wants to continue playing and where he feels happy,” he told Radio Cooperativa in Chile.

“The most important thing is that Alexis enjoy his football, because when he was finding form, he got injured. He didn’t play much at Manchester and that meant he arrived not fully fit.

“I would like [Alexis] Sanchez to remain in Milan, especially as in June he’ll get the chance to play alongside another Chilean, who will very probably come to the club.

“Let’s just say I am optimistic we’ll see two Chileans at Inter next season and I have some privileged information on that score.

“We all know what Vidal means for Antonio Conte and I am sure in June the club will intensify its efforts to sign him from Barcelona. Inter fans would be very happy to have Arturo.”

Inter next face local rivals AC Milan on Sunday in Serie A while Barcelona play Real Betis.
