Liverpool announce new deal for 27-goal forward Roberto Firmino

Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has signed a new five-year contract at the club following an impressive season.

While Mohamed Salah has received most of the plaudits this season, Brazilian Firmino has equally impressed in a central role under Jurgen Klopp, earning him a reported five-year deal worth £180,000 per week – which would make him the club’s joint-top earner alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Firmino has scored 27 in 50 games across all competitions so far this season, including 10 in the Champions League as his side are one game away from the final.

And the Brazilian has revealed there was no other choice for him to make when a new deal was put on the table.

“It was an easy decision,” he told Liverpool’s official website.

“The club have taken me in in an incredible way and I’ve grown a lot here with my work with the support of the whole team. I am very, very happy here.

“Everything fits in the best possible way. My teammates are fantastic and I am very grateful to be able to play with them at this club.

“I love to play for Liverpool FC. The fans are excellent and fantastic in how they support us all the way. They support us throughout the games and the work they do during the match is beautiful.”

The Brazilian initially joined Liverpool from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2015, making 140 appearances and scoring 50 goals since his debut.

And Firmino will be hoping to add to that tally on Wednesday as his Liverpool side take on Roma in their Champions League semi-final second leg, taking a 5-2 aggregate advantage into the game.

“Bobby no look” – Twitter reacts to Firmino’s new contract announcement

The breaking news announced by Liverpool was greeted with mass excitement from Liverpool fans and those linked with the club on Twitter.

But some were more focused on the way the contract was signed – with Firmino’s signature move, the no-look.
