Hakim Ziyech leaves door wide open for summer move amid Roma links

Ajax midfielder Hakim Ziyech has admitted he could leave the Dutch club in the summer, with Roma reportedly interested.

The Moroccan has been a key part of the Ajax team to reach the Champions League quarter-finals and return to the top of the Eredivisie after years of mediocrity.

Could Ziyech leave Ajax this summer? Five key things to know…

  1. Hakim Ziyech was linked with a move to Roma last summer but ultimately stayed at Ajax.
  2. The Moroccan has since been an important player for Ajax as they look to win the Eredivisie.
  3. Ziyech has been directly involved in 27 Eredivisie goals this season, scoring 15 and assisting 12.
  4. His performances have seen Ziyech once again linked with a move to Roma in the summer.
  5. And the midfielder has refused to rule out the option of leaving Ajax.

His performances have seen Ziyech linked with a move away from Ajax this summer, with Roma touted as a possible destination once more after a transfer looked likely last summer.

Despite not getting Ziyech, Roma did sign one Ajax man with Justin Kluivert making the move. And Ziyech has revealed he has spoken to his former team-mate about Serie A.

“No, I don’t think it has,” he told Calciomercato when asked if the Roma interest has died down.

“I still talk to Justin Kluivert regularly and, yes, we’ve talked about Serie A. There isn’t a league I’d prefer to play in.

“It depends on the type of project the club has in store for me. The important thing for me is to keep growing as a player.”

Since a move to Roma fell through last year Ziyech has scored 15 goals in the Eredivisie and added a further 12 assists as Ajax lead the table on goal difference with four games remaining.

Ziyech confident of Ajax’s Champions League chances

Ziyech had a night to forget in Ajax’s 1-1 draw with Juventus on Wednesday night, missing a number of good chances to give his side control of the tie.

But the Moroccan remains confident his side can still overcome the away goal and advance to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

“In football anything is possible,” he added.

“It’s up to us to give everything we can and see where it takes us, but obviously the dream is to make history.

“I think my first half against Juve was pretty good, the second one a little less so. I know I can do a lot better.

“I don’t have a real preferred position, for me the important thing is to play.

“For now I like to play out wide, but if the coach asked me to move inside, I’d do so willingly.”
